My first time painting the Sydney Opera House ✨💕

You’d think after all the time of living here, and many years of having a painting practice, I would have attempted it before… but I was honestly scared and thought I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. Here’s why:

1. I don’t sketch or draw. For a long time I thought I couldn’t possibly ever draw something so complicated. Plus, I don’t like drawing and usually just jump right into painting. I thought that approach wouldn’t work with this.

2. Paintings like this need planning. I don’t have the patience to do that.

3. It won’t fit my style jn watercolour, I’ll have to paint it in oils and I don’t currently have the setup for that.

You know what? It turns out I was wrong about all three! I chose to start small so it was less overwhelming. On a small paper I had less room to get confused about proportions. I started painting without a sketch or planning it out, like I always do. I put down a solid background in the colours I love. I stopped worrying and just painted. What do you think about how it turned out?

My first big art market stall, exactly one year ago today 🤯 What a whirlwind life has been since then! If you’ve been following my stories over the last 12 months, you know I spent the year slow travelling to a few of my favourite places, hanging out with (almost) all of my favourite people! From giving up my apartment in Germany, to travelling to Koh Samui to see my brother again after 4 years (!), to my beloved Sydney, a summer in Germany, and now fulfilling a lifelong dream of being in New York, it’s been an absolutely incredible year!

Thank you to all of you who’ve stuck around, and all who have supported me while the business was taking a backseat. I’m so grateful for each and every one of you 🥹 I’ve been working on setting up the shop again for many months and now we are back open for business! I’m more than ready to pursue this and many more of my art business dreams in the coming year and beyond, I truly can’t wait! And hopefully there will be many more opportunities like this to meet you in person!

💇🏽‍♀️ I did a thing! It must have been 15 years since my hair was this “short”. I know it’s still long, but for a very long time my only hair goal was to have the longest possible, beautiful hair 😅

But over the last year it had grown to a length that started to really annoy me and I knew it also didn’t look as good anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’ve thought about cutting it often over the years, even to a short bob, but I never did. So for me, this was a huge step! We cut off about a third+ of the length and added lots of layers. I’m really, really happy with it! 💖

Returning to the grid after a long absence with this Flamingo 🦩🌴 from my sketchbook 📖

The last 3 months were really hard. My love Lily suddenly passed away on May 4th 💔🌈🐈

I went into survival mode for a few weeks and just couldn’t stay home alone without Lily. She had been quite literally by my side for almost 4 years 😿 So I left to cat sit for other people for a while 😻❤️‍🩹

Then, after I got back home, I got sick following a couple of va****inactions. I had severe pain and cramping in both arms, which also meant I was unable to create for almost a month 🚫

Ok happy to say that after all this I’m now back in the gym trying to build my strength back up, and I also started painting again this week 👩🏽‍🎨 I can’t wait to share more with you now that I’m finally able to do@all the things I love again 💕

Looking back on the 2 years since I first opened my shop in November 2020 has brought up all the feels 💕

2021 was my first proper year in business and it was absolutely amazing ✨ It was a huge year for me in really cultivating my art practice and so many other ways! I set and achieved many goals and was really dedicated to my vision 👁

2022 then hit really differently with many big life changes. I achieved my lifelong dreams of becoming Australian and working 100% remotely. And then I moved back to Germany to center myself, work through old wounds and call big changes into my life. As a result, I didn’t focus on my business as much as I would have liked 🤔

For 2023 I’m setting new goals and want to really align my life and business with my values! May it bring balance, abundance and happiness to all of us✨

Dreaming of summer today ☀️🌸🌼🍐🍓

I accidentally took a pretty long break from Instagram. I didn’t plan to, but between moving into my own place and travelling to see family, it just happened. This whole year has been a huge transition for me and I think I’m still catching up. But now that I’ve settled in a little bit I feel ready to get back into painting, sharing, and soon opening my shop up again!

This is a reminder that it’s ok to do what feels right, to trust your intuition. Because guess what, nothing bad happened while I was offline. Sure, I didn’t make strides in my business, but I needed the downtime to focus on other things. I unpacked my entire life from boxes, some of which had been in storage for 10 years. I saw some amazing artists perform, I reconnected with an old friend, I played with my niece and nephew, had wine with my sister, hung out with my friends. I did what I could manage during the time, and that was enough. Thanks to my dear friend Liz who reminded me of this today.

My efforts are enough, I am enough, and so are you 💕

Dreaming of summer today ☀️🌸🌼🍐🍓
